The only line that Peter Laviolette didn’t break up against the Blue Jackets was the Ville Leino, Scott Hartnell,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Danny Briere line.? They played pretty well during the first two periods and really got hot in the third period.? Ville Leino scored the only Flyer goal with five minutes left in the third period and kept pressure on Mathieu Garon through the remainder of the third.
The way they played the Flyers hard, the Blue Jackets could be a serious contender if their brand of defense continues consistently throughout the year.? Their offense looked solid but if they can get Rick Nash going,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they could be dominant.
“We played mindless hockey without any energy, without any passion,” Philadelphia Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette said after the loss.
Philadelphia Flyers Look Flat in 2-1 Loss to Columbus

On the positive side, Brian Boucher played well and the goaltending issue so far this season hasn’t been an issue.? Flyers coach Peter Laviolette has been splitting time between the goaltenders pretty evenly and I believe he will continue with this trend.? The goaltending is not the issue right now and when our defense gets on the same page (I’m looking at you Chris Pronger and Matt Carle) it will get even better.

The defense looked sluggish and didn’t force the play in the offensive zone at all.? The Flyers passes seemed misguided and just plain off in the first two periods. Most of the offensive players for the Flyers like Mike Richards and Jeff Carter were nonexistent and when on the ice, they looked lost.
“All night they had some odd man rushes, some 3-on-2’s,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], driving the net pretty good,” Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher said concerning the Blue Jackets offensive pressure.
Donald Wood Jr.
Writer’s Note: I saw Jody Shelley throw a puck to two Flyers fans in Columbus.? I can see he was loved in Columbus and the man is starting to grow on me.? He doesn’t play sloppy hockey which I had anticipated and that makes me happy.

“We didn’t get going until after two periods ourselves; the last period was good but we just gotta do it right away,” Ville Leino said after the game.
Bad penalties plagued the Flyers again with four minors in playable time (Hartnell and Briere took late penalties at 19:56 of the third period), but none were more destructive to the momentum the Flyers were building in the third period than an interference penalty against Darrol Powe.? There were five minutes left in the third period and the Flyers had just scored to get within one goal, Powe checked his man without the puck into the boards directly in front of a referee and was called for interference,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], promptly stomping on the momentum.
The Philadelphia Flyers just didn’t play as hard as the Columbus Blue Jackets did Monday night at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.? The Flyers lost to the Blue Jackets 2-1 in a disappointing effort.
The power play struggled again, missing on both of their opportunities and failing to pose any real threat on either chance.? The team’s offensive struggles continued tonight and the Flyers now have 19 goals through eight games of the season.? That puts this potent offense in the bottom third in the league and if they want to start winning, they have to start scoring consistently.
Physically, the Flyers were outplayed throughout the game and Blue Jacket Derek Dorsett dominated the first two periods with his physical play.? The Flyers just seemed to be going through the motions and almost waiting for someone else to make the first move,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like three baseball fielders letting a bloop single drop in between them.
